Latest version adds document tracking, batch control and image management capabilities

Raleigh, NC – November 18, 2021 – The TWAIN Working Group (TWG), a not-for-profit organization designed to provide and foster a universal public standard, today announced the immediate release of its 2.5 specification — the latest version of its royalty-free open standard protocol that facilitates communication between Image Capture Applications and Image Capture Devices. The TWAIN 2.5 specification provides all of the functionality and stability of previous TWAIN Classic versions, and now includes badges such as barcode, patch code, image address and printing.

This version also provides a self-certification tool to ensure the best success in driver development. The TWAIN 2.5 specification was designed to allow TWAIN drivers to natively support the TWAIN Direct specification for developers interested in scanning over a network or in the cloud with future applications. Download of the latest specification can be found at https://twain.org/specification/.

“This latest release adds features allowing even more functionality than TWAIN 2.4,” stated Joseph Odore, Chair of the TWAIN Working Group. “It is important that the TWAIN Working Group continue to update versions of its original standard to provide scanner manufacturers, application developers and end users with the best in driver technology, and provide a specification that supports migration to TWAIN Direct driverless scanning when an organization is ready to scan over a network or in the cloud. It’s a win for all!”
